After five long years and endless interruptions, I have finally finished my latest novel. As a result, I’m beginning this new decade by embarking on the arduous process of marketing the manuscript. Although I would much rather spend my time writing than hawking my wares, I know, now, how important this part of the process is, and I am ready to get it done. My new book, The Way of Things, is a story which must be told before it is too late.
After all, a dear friend of mine was just diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer, and we were really counting on her having two more years to complete her novel and get it on the market. Now our timetable will have to be accelerated, but we will get it done because hers, too, is a story which must be told. But the radically shortened deadline she faces because of her situation has reminded me how numbered all our days on this Earth are, and it has also impressed upon me what a crime it is to allow a single second of our time to be consumed by trivia, discontent, or ingratitude.
Therefore, I will plod ahead on the path to publication, staying positive and enjoying every minute of the arduous journey. I will also try very hard to make the most of every minute by singing and dancing my way to the journey’s end. I hope y’all will join me by belting out your own joyful noises as you kick up your heels through the early days of this new decade.
